********
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has alleged that certain Nigerian politicians and members of the armed forces are acting as informants and collaborators for Boko Haram insurgents.
In a recent interview on News Central’s Breakfast Central, Zulum stated:
“We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, within the politicians, and within the communities. What we shall do is to strengthen our intelligence and to deal with them rμthlessly.”
He emphasized the need to move away from "contractocracy" and asserted that with the right measures, the insurgency could be significantly reduced within six months.
Zulum also highlighted the importance of not politicizing insecvrity.
Additionally, the governor pointed out that the Nigerian Army is ill-equipped to effectively combat the Boko Haram insurgency.
He revealed that some individuals within the military, political class, and local communities are aiding the terr0rists.
These allegations come amid renewed Boko Haram attacks, dislodgement of military formations, and abduction of citizens in many communities almost on a daily basis.
Governor Zulum has called on the Federal Government to increase its security attention to the North-East region.
The Nigerian Army has previously refuted allegations of sab0tage in the f!ght against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East region.
Maj. Gen. John Enenche, Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, stated that the military has subjected footage of att@cks to analysis and would make its findings known to the public.
Governor Zulum's statements have sparked discussions on the challenges facing Nigeria's fight against insurgency and the need for increased transparency and accountability within the security apparatus.
