Senator Natasha Appears Before Federal High Court in Abuja

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja for a hearing on the case she filed challenging her six-month suspension by the Senate. The court also listened to her lawyer, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN), who filed a motion accusing the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and others of contempt of court and violating the Senator’s rights.

Senator Natasha was suspended by the Senate on March 6, 2025, over allegations of misconduct and violating Senate rules. However, she claimed the suspension was connected to an accusation she made against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, which he denied. The Senate Ethics Committee dismissed her petition, stating that she failed to follow the proper procedure.

In a previous court session, the case was reassigned from Justice Obiora Egwuatu to Justice Binta Nyako after Justice Egwuatu recused himself. During the Monday, May 12 session, Natasha's lawyer informed the court that they had submitted all necessary documents for the case. Justice Nyako then adjourned the hearing to Tuesday, May 13, to consider all pending applications and proceed with the full case.

A controversy also arose over a social media post by the Senator accusing the Senate President of trying to suppress her freedom of speech. Akpabio’s lawyer asked the court to sanction.
