GOVERNOR MUTFWANG PARTICIPATES IN COMMISSIONING OF NATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE CONTROL OF SMALL ARMS AND LIGHT WEAPONS, NORTH CENTRAL ZONAL OFFICE

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Wednesday, joined other dignitaries in Minna, Niger State, for the official commissioning of the North Central Zonal Office of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

Governor Mutfwang, who was represented by Hon. Ziphion Chrysanthus, Director of Liaison for Security Agencies, commended the initiative of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in establishing the zonal centre. He described it as a timely and strategic intervention in the fight against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, which remains a major driver of insecurity in the North Central region.

Acknowledging the complex security challenges bedeviling the region, Governor Mutfwang called for a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to effectively address the menace. He urged governments at all levels, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to synergize efforts in supporting the objectives of the new centre.

He emphasized that the zonal office would not only serve as a hub for strategic policy implementation, but also for training, intelligence sharing, and capacity development. According to him, such initiatives must be backed by robust policy frameworks that enable swift executive actions.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed Plateau State's commitment to supporting the Centre’s operations and fostering inter-state cooperation in achieving sustainable peace and security across the North Central zone.

The Director General of the Centre, DIG JB Kokumo (Rtd), mni, who represented the NSA, delivered a keynote address, stressing the critical importance of controlling the spread of small arms and light weapons as a cornerstone for regional stability and development.

The Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Dr. Umaru Bago, served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event. Other prominent personalities included the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barr. Sam Ode; Special Adviser on Security to the Kogi State Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd); and the Commissioner for Internal Security of Nasarawa State, CP Usman Isa (Rtd).

Also present were heads of various security agencies in Niger State, senior officers from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and other law enforcement agencies.
