An Open Letter to Senator Austin Akobundu
Senator Representing Abia Central Senatorial District
National Assembly, Abuja
By: Hon. Atulaegwu Ebere Davidson
Dear Senator Akobundu,
I write to you as a concerned constituent and citizen of Abia Central Senatorial District. This letter bears the collective disappointment and discontent of the people who, since the return of democracy in 1999, have never experienced such a void in representation as we now do under your tenure.
Abia Central has, unfortunately, lost its voice at the Senate under your watch. The core responsibilities of a senator — to legislate, represent, and advocate for the interests of your constituents — have been glaringly abandoned. There is no evidence of your presence on the floor of the Senate in defense of our challenges, no bills or motions in our interest, and no constituency engagement to show you understand or care about the daily struggles of the people you claim to represent.
The people of Abia Central did not vote for you. This was made clear in your own Local Government Area, Ikwuano, where you were overwhelmingly rejected at the polls. This rejection was echoed across the six LGAs of Abia Central, where the electorate stood firmly behind the legitimate candidate, Senator Darlington Nwokocha — a man who genuinely earned the people’s trust and votes.
Your emergence through a court judgment, not through the ballot box, broke the heart of Abia Central constituents. It insulted the democratic will of the people and exposed the dangers of judicial overreach in electoral matters. Since your controversial assumption of office, you have done little to allay the fears of those who saw your victory as a miscarriage of justice.
We are not interested in token projects or last-minute efforts to redeem a failed representation. It is too late. Do not bother doing anything further for Abia Central — we have learned not to expect anything from a mandate that was never ours.
Also, kindly make up your mind not to seek re-election in 2027. The protest votes you will receive will be massive, shocking, and deeply embarrassing. The people will speak louder than ever before, and this time, no court will override their decision.
I'm not ready to banter with E-rats.
Respectfully
Hon. Ebere Davidson C
