Heartbroken varsity student kills self after girlfriend dumps him, mother reacts

A 22-year-old Great Zimbabwe University student committed suicide after his girlfriend dumped him.

Desire Mungoma decided to kill himself after his girlfriend only identified as Paula ended their relationship.

He was found lying dead with a poisonous liquid in Ashdown Park.

Speaking during an interview with H-metro, Desire’s mother, Mai Chariga said she is devasted that her only son decided to end his life over a girl.

She revealed that she only got to find out about the reason after calling the girlfriend.

“I called the girlfriend to ask her what had happened but she only told me ndakamuudza handichadi tidanane, Desire akati ndakuzviuraya.

“I just said saka mwana wangu akoshesa iwewe kudarika inini amai vake,” she said.

Mai Chariga who is separated from Desire’s father revealed that she can’t believe her son is gone. Sobbing, she said she had been working hard to ensure that her son who was on attachment attains a degree.

“I told myself that I would resign after my son attained his degree and he was on attachment.

“I wanted to sing Nhasi ndezveduwo song on his graduation ndichiti mwana wangu iyeye but it’s not going to be,” she said.
